Good Old Maxine. I haven't caught up with her in a long time. Crabby as ever. It is December 3, 2012 and Monday the start of a whole new week. Pearl Harbor Day coming up on the 7th, not many of the old time veterans left; take a minute to remember them . Friend Bob is ninety now and still going strong. He was an airplane mechanic and still crazy about planes to this day. Charles is going to be ninety this year and was a paratrooper, one of the men shot at as they floated down out of the skies to land in France. Both have vivid memories of World War II, the war to end all wars . . . the thought was there, their deeds live on forever but our world is never without a war somewhere. How things have changed as this one is over ten years old and getting uglier throughout the world, touching each and every one of us on a daily basis. On the other hand, December is a month of making lists and checking them ten times as we wonder what to gift our family and friends. I don't know about you but I find the prices extremely high on everything I look at. There was an ad on television the other day for a tie at $49.00 . . . a tie . . . I'm in shock. I thought $2.98 was high enough. Some of the stores tout if you purchase one sweater or shirt you can have two other items free. I'm wondering what the price is on one article of clothing. Champagne taste with a beer pocket book, how we all know that one. All I can say is I wish you good hunting for that special gift for that special person, you know the one who has everything! Good luck, and be sure you leave those new scarves on the shelves as they are made to look like a Muslim wrap and are creating some ugly looks and a lot of unkind words. I don't know who came up with them as we have had scarves, mittens and hoods to wear for years. People are touchy and maybe this article of head wear was not meant to go that route but according to an article in our newspaper , it is . . . who created it? who manufactures it? why now? Copy cat? Whatever the reason, remember the season and keep Christ in Christmas and stick to your own traditions. Are you humming along with the carols . . . 'ding a ling . . soon it will be Christmas day! Smile it is good for you. Hugs to all. |
